Remedial Stone Massage Course for Massage Therapists in Western Canada
Mar 13, 2026Most therapists first learn hot stone massage as a spa treatment. And while it can absolutely be relaxing, stone therapy can do a lot more than that when it’s used in a clinical setting.
In this course, I teach therapists how to use stones as real treatment tools. We combine stone work with techniques you already know, like muscle energy techniques, stretching, fascial work, and origin and insertion based treatment.
The goal is not to memorize a routine. The goal is to help you learn how to think with the stones so they become a natural extension of the way you already treat clients.
This Remedial Stone Massage Course takes place in cities such as Lethbridge, Calgary, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, and Edmonton, Alberta, Regina and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and as far west as Kelowna, British Columbia. The in person class focuses on practical techniques that you can bring directly into your treatments the next week.
Course Details:
- It's a 2 day course, usually running 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- The cost is $515 per student
- Class size is intentionally smaller at around 12 students, although the maximum is 16.
- Registration Email: [email protected] Or visit: www.massagecec.com/store for any "In Person In Western Canada" course dates
- This training is designed for Registered Massage Therapists and second year massage therapy students who are close to graduating.
Since the course focuses on therapeutic applications and the science behind why techniques work, it’s not designed for spa relaxation practitioners. If you like understanding the reasoning behind what you’re doing in treatment, and you want new ways to approach stubborn muscle tension, you will probably really enjoy this course.
Continuing Education Credits
The course provides 16 hours of continuing education and students receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training. The training is typically accepted by the following associations:
- MTAA
- NHPC
- CMMOTA
- CRMTA
- MTAM
If you belong to one of these associations, this course can usually be applied toward your continuing education requirements.
What Makes This Stone Course Different
When I first learned stone massage years ago, it was taught mostly as a routine based relaxation treatment. Over time I realized that stones could be used in much more therapeutic ways. So this course has evolved into something a little different.
Instead of teaching you a set routine, I teach you how to integrate stones into the techniques you already use. In the class we work with:
• hot stones
• warm stones
• cold stones
And combine them with techniques such as:
• muscle energy techniques
• origin and insertion based work
• active and passive stretching
• fascial based techniques
• lymphatic assistance techniques
• treatment around joints, tendons, and ligaments
• full body therapeutic stone application
We also spend time working with very little oil, which allows for better control and deeper engagement with the tissue.
Areas We Focus On
Some areas of the body respond extremely well to stone therapy, especially when tension has built up over time.
During the course we spend a lot of time working on:
• upper back
• neck
• shoulder girdle
• facial release
You will also learn how to incorporate stones into a full body treatment, so the techniques fit naturally into your sessions.
Stone Kits for Students
If you are attending the course in Lethbridge, Alberta, everything is provided. The class takes place in a private studio at 4 Elements Wellness Clinic, and I set up all of the massage tables, stones, linens, and equipment for the training.
You really just need to show up ready to learn!
Students also have the option of purchasing a 13 piece custom stone kit if they want their own set to take home and practice with.
If I am teaching the course in other locations around Alberta, British Columbia, or Saskatchewan, students will receive a supply list ahead of time and may be asked to bring their own massage tables and linens.
About the Instructor
I’ve been working with stone massage for over 16 years, and it has been one of the most useful tools in my practice. It works incredibly well for treating areas like the upper back and shoulders, where therapists often struggle to create enough depth without overworking their hands.
Over the years I’ve adapted the way I use stones so they fit better into clinical massage therapy rather than spa treatments.
So far, more than 50 massage therapists have completed this remedial stone massage training.
Location and Travel
The course takes place in Lethbridge, Alberta in a private training studio at 4 Elements Wellness Clinic. There is also a hotel located directly across the street, which makes it easy for therapists travelling in from outside the city.
Students often attend from across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
The course is also hosted in other cities each year - for upcoming dates visit www.massagecec.com/store.
What to Bring
If you are attending the Lethbridge course, you only need to bring a notebook, comfortable clothing for practicing techniques, and food for the day. Everything else is provided.
If attending outside of Lethbridge, a list will be sent to you after enrolment.
